What is Editing Precision?

My name is Jessica and I am a life long lover of literature and problem solving! I am often found curled up with a book and a good cup of coffee. I read all genres, and especially love fantasy, mystery, thriller, romance, historical fiction, and the classics.

I am a graduate of Miami University where I received a Bachelor’s degree in Professional Writing (Public Writing and Rhetoric) and History. During my time in undergrad, I was trained as a writing tutor for my University’s writing center, where I was able to work with a wide range of subjects and styles. I continued my education at The Catholic University of America and received a Master’s of Science degree in Library Information Science (Information Management and Data Science). I am now a member of The Editorial Freelance Association and The Editor’s Tea Club to constantly continue professional development.

I have a passion for information organization and love the thrill of discussing details and themes with others who are also passionate about writing. I am constantly fascinated by the way our words elicit meaning and emotion through an endless number of combinations.

“I finally came across Jessica’s profile on Goodreads. Her website was professional, and she gave off such an approachable energy, I decided to message her.  As an aspiring author, maybe you’re a little dramatic in your words like me, but I’m going to stand by this statement I’m about to make: she changed my life.  I’d been hoping to find somebody passionate about story telling, who could point out the plot holes, points of character consistency, all that stuff that makes a story great, and she gave me what I was looking for and MUCH more.  The service she offers is incredibly unique, and with a shared document, even from different counties, the two of us could work on the document at the same time if it worked out that way with our schedules. She’s kind, funny and she will care about your story and your characters, which is so important for an editor.  I could write a lot more, there’s a lot to say, but she’s incredible and I look forward to working with her in the future.  SEND THE EMAIL AND CONTACT HER PLEASE. YOU WON’T REGRET IT!" - Ancient Shadow: The Legend of the Cursed Bloodline

Jessica has read a few of my short stories and has always promptly returned a thoughtful and thorough response. Her line-by-line comments allowed me to discover and explore new directions  I would have never contemplated. She pointed out general considerations for improving my writing style, assisted me in finding structural  problems and plot holes, informed me when characters might need more  fleshing out, when emotion-enhanced descriptors may be advantageous, and  if the character acted in ways that did not align with their  personality traits. All while not interfering with my creativity. Any  questions I had regarding her comments or thoughts on improving my  stories were typically returned by email within the same day (sometimes  within minutes), so there were no long periods of waiting around to  stoke my impatient nature.  There was never offense taken if I disagreed with her suggestions, only her willingness to have an open discussion. Jessica charges a responsible rate, but more importantly, her work reflects her passion for helping others improve their craft. With  her insights, I refined my stories to the point where I felt  comfortable sending them out into the publishing arena while knowing I  had an experienced and invaluable partner in my corner.”— (Short Story and Flash Fiction)

“Jessica and I have been working together for a few years now, and I can’t imagine publishing a book without her. She's beta read three books for me now, and not a single one would have been nearly as well-written if I didn’t have her help. Jessica is amazing at finding plot holes, inconsistencies, and even little things in your writing that are repetitive or don't flow smoothly. As a writer, it’s hard to find those problems yourself and Jessica is always so kind and helpful when pointing them I also love that she leaves comments from a reader’s perspective, allowing me to see how plot twists and other elements of the book come across to first time readers. She’s super easy to talk to, and always replies fast as well. If there are ever any problems or questions she is quick to address them! out. I’ve never been disappointed with her work, and I truly cannot express how essential of a role she has played in all my books. If you need a reliable, talented beta reader then Jessica is the way to go!...” — Royally Divine, Cruelly Divine, Conjuring A Grim, Charming A Grim, Kiss Me and Die, Kiss Me and Live

“First off, I love working with Jessica. Going through the manuscript in real-time was extremely insightful. As she saw it she commented. Which gave me a chance to examine, explain, or fix. It worked out fabulously.  She really got into the mechanics of the story and help guide me to the message and meaning I was aiming for. Like I said, she handed of good critique on the sentence structure and well as the feelings within the scenes. Yeah, there were a lot of things I needed to address in my story, but the treats she handed out when there was a good sentence or a moment that landed well couldn't have been sweeter. Not only am I satisfied with her work, but I look forward to working with her on my second book, and many more." -Book Zero

“I worked with Jessica on my sci-fi/fantasy novel for developmental edits, and she went above and beyond my expectations! She's a great communicator, has a strong work ethic, gives detailed and constructive feedback, and is amazing at keeping track of details throughout the story---whether it's a subplot, a character arc, or even keeping track of objects that the characters use. She found every weak link in my story and asked the right questions to elicit the details from me that were missing from the manuscript. Her approachable personality and genuine enthusiasm for my book allowed for fun and productive discussions on the themes and ideas I've been exploring in my story. Highly recommend to anyone looking for an editor who cheers you on and is fully immersed in your story!" -The Scarlet Files

  • M.L. Rowan

“I've been writing and self-editing for a couple years now, and have been putting off hiring an editor because the process always felt overwhelming. Working with Jessica was an absolute treat! She walked me through the process and was super communicative the entire time. If ever I had a question about some of her feedback, or wanted to work out some story stuff, she was available and more than happy to help! Genuinely couldn't imagine working with anyone else. My story is stronger than it has ever been, in ways I could have never achieved by myself.” - Stars Apart

  • Carrie Krause

“Everybody needs an editor to improve their work—even an editor such as myself! Jessica performed a detailed review of my pages, correcting errors and offering better ways to express myself. She understood my voice and goals and was supportive in helping me achieve what I was going for. Even after her edit was complete, she replied to my updates on our shared document with tracked changes and offered additional feedback. I appreciated her knowledge, coaching, and kind words. I found a partner in Jessica and look forward to working together again.” - Get Carried Away Editing

  • K.I. Tolles

“Jessica is an exceptional editor, but that’s not where her skills end. In addition to her other services (that you should absolutely utilize), she’s also an incredible person, which seamlessly translates into the way she delivers her feedback. She is extremely thorough, and tailors her advice to what your end-goals are, so the advice and end product align perfectly. Sending her my manuscript is one of my favorite parts of the writing timeline, and I am SO proud to say that Jessica is my permanent editor!” - A Gathering of Claws, Nocturne in Red
